Our Wheeler cousins reunion of 2006 held in Ulysses, Kansas in early September was a smashing success. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it great!! The weather, food, place, planning, and camaraderie seemed to leave all who attended with a sense that we cannot just let these relationships deteriorate, so we have some tentative plans in the making.
First though, for those of you who could not attend, we were able to edit and add to our knowledge of our common ancestry. We had obituaries, pictures, postcards, keepsakes, and letters from our parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents.
It was great to discuss these relics and epistles with each other and learn of not only our past, but also our current cousins, second cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, etc. that we knew little or nothing of. Zana even procured and produced notebooks of some pertinent ancestry information from a "cousin" we knew nothing of (or at least Pat and I knew nothing of). Then, after our fill of family history 101, we filled our bodies with the great food, even the good ice cream like we had as children at Grandma Wheelers and elsewhere!
Pat and Tony got so excited that we later attended the "Lynch" reunion in Hamilton, Missouri. Our great grandmother, Sarah Jane (Lynch) descended from the Lynch line and married a (Riley Isaac) Welker and these were our grandmother, Florence (Welker) Wheeler's parents. The Lynch reunion has been growing for many years and we met Grandmother Wheeler's nephew (Samuel Welker's son from Lamar Missouri). We saw hundreds of pictures and we recommend that if you like seeing your ancestry, you would want to attend next year's Lynch reunion.
Now, it is time to tell you one of the good news results of the Ulysses reunion. We do plan to have cousins and familys meet in the year 2008, hosted by Tony and Pat Adair and Sam and Patsy Wormus. The current plan is to meet in Nebraska at Fort Robinson, where we had a similar reunion in years past. We had the idea that many of you could plan to attend the reunion (including your children and grandchildren) and include that in your vacation plans for 2008. It would seem as though late June,2008,  might be the most appropriate time and we will just hope since the time is almost two (2) years out that you can make arrangement (or rearrangements) in order that we all can attend!!!!!!
We would like for all cousins to relay pertinent information to their children, grandchildren, etc. We feel this will give you the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to do so. Those that can attend will meet many relatives they may not know and will gather much information about their ancestry. We must make definite reservations, with Fort Robinson, for the group one year in advance!! We need your committment by June 1, 2007.
We have included the website for Fort Robinson, or if we do not have your current email address, we are sending you a copy. The website is www.ngpc.state.ne.us/parks then click on northwest panhandle, Fort Robinson. Phone number is (308)665-2900)
Between now and June of 2008 (most likely date), please make plans, if you can,  to be available on those dates. In the meantime, eat lightly and with many raw veggies, exercise, and smile a lot!
Love to all,
